Tesco Taiping

Taiping, the once old town is slowly changing its image from a town to a busy city with new establishments and shopping places on the rise. This is actually good news to me as I love to hang out in the shopping malls. Here is a list of the places to shop in Taiping.

  • Giant Hypermarket – This is a bit distance from the center of the town.
  • Tesco Hypermarket – Our favorite Hypermarket! Here you can also find Secret Recipe, Watson’s and other food outlets.
  • The Store Jalan Kota – Located at the old town, which is a very quiet place during the weekdays.
  • The Store Jalan Panggung Wayang
  • The Store Jalan Kamunting –
  • Taiping Sentral Mall- The newest mall in town! A lot of food outlets like Sushu King, Kenny Roger’s, Starbucks, Nash Donuts and a lot more!
  • Tesco Extra Hypermarket (planning)
  • Mydin Hypermarket (planning)
  • Taiping Mall (under construction)
  • Pasaraya Econsave (planning)

    Here is a list of the malls and places to shop here in Klang.

    * ÆON Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre (Bandar Bukit Tinggi Klang) or simply called the New Jusco – This is my favorite mall so far because its new, big and a lot of shops and food outlets to choose from.
    * Bukit Raja Shopping Centre (Bandar Baru Klang) or Jusco in Bukit Raja – It’s quite a nice mall except that it has been superseded by the new Jusco in Bukit Tinggi
    * Carrefour (Kapar Road) – Oh, as a non Klang resident, we had a difficult time finding this one. Their signages were not accurate. It was written on one of the signages, Carrefour 5 minutes away but it actually took us 10-12 minutes at a normal speed and midway we thought that we were lost.
    * Centro Business Centre[1]
    * Giant (Bandar Bukit Tinggi) – Just like any other Giant outlets, I find their layout quite confusing and ended up forgetting to buy a lot of things. But they do have a lot of good bargain.
    * Harbour Place (Port Klang – under construction) – I’m looking forward for the opening of this mall since its just near to where we are staying.
    * Harbour Point (Port Klang – under construction)
    * Klang City Square
    * Klang Digital Mall (Formerly known as Klang Mid Valley, located adjacent to Klang City Square and Shaw Centrepoint)
    * Klang Parade (Meru Road)
    * Shaw Centrepoint (Klang Town) – One place that I’m not so keen in going because it’s kinda popular for pick pocketing and those sort of things.
    * Tesco (Bandar Bukit Tinggi) – I like Tesco
    * Indian Street for all the Indian stuffs and clothesAeon-bukit-tinggi

    Ceria 99 Shop Taiping June 4, 2009

    We accidentally passed by the Ceria 99 shop here in Taiping yesterday and we were pleased that we did. We found so many cheap plastic ware ranging from 99 cents to 9.99 RM.

    Actually, we’ve been wanting to buy some plastic stuff for the house since last week. We went to Tesco and Giant but still found some stuff quite expensive. So, now I know where to go to buy cheap plastic wares and other stuff. But sad to say, we were still not able to find a covered dish rack like the one we had in the Philippines. Hopefully, we could find one soon.

    Since all the boxes of Sustagen Milk with the bouncing ball was finished last Sunday, I went to Econmart today to buy my kids milk. Then, there’s this big signage near the Dumex Dugro milk section, which says  ” Percuma” ( Malay) which means ‘free’. So, I took a closer look at the signage and there I saw a big Faber Castelle Art set. My eyes grew wider when I saw the actually art set. It’s very nice with a lot of things inside, crayons, colored pencils, sharpener, pen, mechanical pencit and etc. Faber Castelle is a good brand and they are just giving it away for free! I was excited! Actually, you have to buy 4, one kilo packs of Original or Honey flavored Dumex Dugro ( stages 1 or 3) to get the Art set. That actually works fine for me since, my son can use the stage 1 while my girl can have the stage 3. So, I can buy 2 packs for each child. One kilo of the Dugro milk only costs 20 RM ( 280 pesos) which is really so cheap compared to the milk I buy in the Philippines.

    So, I immediately took 4 packs from the shelves and went straight to the counter to pay. I was just so excited to go back home and show my ‘ surprise’ to my daughter.S5001006

    Now, I know the reason why we were not able to buy the Sustagen with the bouncing ball freebie. This freebie is indeed  a lot better than the ball.

    Last Sunday we went to the New Jusco in Klang to celebrate Mother’s day and to let the kids play in the playpen. Then, we saw the Sustagen Exhibition booth and went inside.

    They had different games and activities for children and gave freebies too. So, we let our kids try out their activities and boy they had fun, especially for my little girl.

    S5000989S5000990My li’l girl was so happy when we finished her activity and when she received her gifts that she exclaimed, “Thank You for letting me play in the playpen, Amma!” LOL! she thought that was already the playpen we wanted her to play in. And anyways, since she already had so much fun in the Sustagen exhibit we didn’t let her play in the Wonderland anymore but just in the play area near the food court- for free. That’s a way to save money! 🙂

    But on our way back home, we saw some kids playing with big bouncing balls and only realized that those were the freebies from Sustagen if their products were bought. And since Tricia likes the bouncing ball and her milk is already finishing, we decided to buy the package with the free bouncing ball. But when we went back, all their products were already bought.We were all a bit disappointed especially for Tricia. But, still we were happy of the fun time we had plus all the other freebies.

    This is the famous Indian Street in Klang where you can find the best deal in all Indian clothes and accessories.

    I remember the time when we went to this place last year to buy a Punjabi Suit and I got dizzy with so many of colors, cloth and style to choose from. I finally settled for a pink and beige Punjabi suit which is really cute.

    Indian suits can be very expensive but all the prices go down especially during the Deepavali season where most of the items go on sale.

    But when is the best and the worst time to do your shopping here? During Deepavali season, the best time because their sale is just amazing but worst  time also because it will be the most crowded time of the year.

    Our family friends’ favorite mart. The reason because it’s just so near their house. One thing I like about this grocery shop is that they have monthly promotions that are really cheap – cheaper than the ones sold at the hypermarkets. Sometimes, they also have some give aways, when you buy a certain product.

    One product that I notice to be always cheaper from this grocery are their Cadbury chocolates. If all the other hypermarkets sell these bars at 6-7RM. They maintain their chocolate bars to be around 5-6 RM..and not to mention there are free smaller chocolate bars attached to the bigger ones.

    The only thing though with groceries like these, is that they don’t have a vide variety of brands and choices. So, you still end up going to the hypermarkets for more variety and your favorite brands. But, I guess that’s why they’re called mini groceries because you just buy the needful from their stores, right?

    Comparing Prices: Malaysia and Philippines April 6, 2009

    We are currently in Malaysia right now. We were in the Philippines for a few months late last year till early this year.

    When I arrived in the Philippines, I couldn’t help but notice the increase of the prices of basic commodities. Actually, it’s either the price has increased or the volume, wieght or size of the commodity has decreased.

    So, often times my family could hear me complaining of the price increase and comparing the prices from Thailand or Malaysia or the prices during my previous visits.

    Then, we arrived in Malaysia. We did our first grocery shopping at EconMart which is a supermarket just at the back of the place where we were staying. Then, I got another shock again because I started to literally convert ( from Malaysia Ringgit to Philippine Peso) every stuff we bought. Then, I found out that the once ‘cheaper’ Malaysian products turned out not to be cheap anymore. There has also been a tremendous price increase in many commodities.  Tsk..tsk..tsk.. So, wherever we go, prices have soared up high.I told my Hubby one day, ” You know what, it’s either there has been an increase on the prices of the commodities OR we have become poorer now. Heheh! Which is which??

    low_yat_plazaOur close family friend introduced us to this Computer and electronic shop in Bukit Bintang. If PC fair in Malaysia is still far ahead, then I guess this would be one of the good places to buy computers and all the techie stuff.

    I remember buying a PC for our center in one of the shops here and the sales representative gave us a very good price. And oh, you have to have good bargaining skills to get a good price from this shop. So, our friend did the negotiation for us and got a big discount! And aside from that our friend also asked for freebies like thumbdrives, 50 pcs blank cds and a printer! I would say that was a very good buy!

    So, if you’re good in bargaining or would want your computer and gadgets at a cheaper price, then better check out the Low Yat Plaza at Bukit Bintang.
